MULDROW (KFSM)-- Church of the Nazarene pastor Carl Fugett expected to walk into the church to pray on Tuesday (May 10) but instead walked into a crime scene.
He said someone broke in through the basement and then ransacked the building.
“We lost two video projectors, a Dell laptop,” Fugett said. “We lost some wireless microphones and receivers for those, a Sony camcorder and tripod stand setup.”
Fugett said even though the thieves got away with more than $6,000 worth of equipment, they left behind more than $20,000 of items they could have easily taken like instruments and audio equipment.
“The safe, they tried to move it, but didn't go anywhere with it, and you know, the PC that they left had all the churches records on, our banking records and everything,” he said.
Fugett said police tell him they believe there were at least two thieves, and that they were on foot based on what they took and what they left behind, but he said if they needed something all they had to do was ask.
“We help people all the time, and you know, if they just need help, they would've gotten it here,” Fugett said.
But, he said church on Sunday will go on as usual.
“Each day has a choice in it,” Fugett said. “We can be drawn to the negative side of things or we can count the blessings, so we're going to choose the blessings.”
The incident is still under investigation, and OSBI is coming in to take fingerprints.
Fugett said he is looking into getting better security equipment for the church.
