FARMINGTON (KFSM) - Since moving to 5A two year ago, Farmington has yet to make a major splash in the classification but the Lady Cardinals are out to change that in the state softball tournament this weekend.

The Lady Cardinals (20-9) posted a 10-4 record in the always tough 5A-West and will face Beebe in the opening round of the state tournament Thursday in Harrison.

Farmington hit .358 as a team during the regular season, led by Brady Wallace's .550 average and 33 RBI.

"Our big deal is we've got to play within ourselves and we've got to worry about what we do compared to what they do," Farmington coach Randy Osnes said.

Sophomore Paige Devecsery has been the workhorse in the circle for Farmington as she has a 14-7 record with a 2.05 ERA and eight shutouts.

"We are a very strong defensive team," Farmington junior Callie Harper said. "Our hitting has been phenomenal lately and our pitcher does a fantastic job. We stay after, we practice hard every single day and that's going to help us through the state tournament."
