VAN BUREN (KFSM) -- Five Rivers Distribution in Van Buren held a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning (May 10), as it celebrated an expansion.

The distributor location now consists of three warehouses that were added in 2016.

"The warehouses that we are in today are bulk storage warehouses. It gives us another tool that we would be able to use to bring in customers through the river system-that are currently going to other terminals along the Mississippi, Ohio and Arkansas River," said owner Marty Shell.

Shell said the warehouses are already full and holds products from customers in locations such as Russia and China.

The warehouses span 44,000 square feet.

"We are competing for the tonnage that is out there and bringing it to the River Valley area," Shell said. "We look forward to building some of these buildings over at the port of Fort Smith in the upcoming years. We are trying to work with the city of Fort Smith, partnering with them to build a 30,000 square foot building like we are standing in today."
