Greenwood Set To Defend 6A Softball Title

Lady Bulldogs paced by pitcher Victoria Taylor who has thrown seven no-hitters and three perfect games this season.

Titles are tough to come by and they're even tougher to defend but that's the task Greenwood is facing heading into this weekend's 6A state softball tournament.

Greenwood (21-5) earned a first round bye and the top seed after a dominant regular season and this is a spot the Lady Bulldogs expected to be in.

"We have five returning starters and we have huge expectations through the season to come back and try to win state again," Greenwood senior pitcher Victoria Taylor said.

Taylor is a big reason why the Lady Bulldogs are looking at a second straight title. Taylor is 16-4 with an earned run average of 0.84 with seven no-hitters and three perfect games.

Expectations are high for this team but they found out early in the season that it wouldn't be a smooth ride to a second straight championship.

"We definitely had a bunch because we had a lot on our shoulders and so we knew that we had to come out and play as hard as we did last year and that took a lot to get the girls back in the mood because we kind of thought we got one, why do we need another," senior third baseman Tatum Holland said. "Everyone has come back and it's been going pretty good."

Greenwood will face the winner of the El Dorado-Jonesboro game Friday morning at 10 a.m. in Sheridan.
