FORT SMITH (KFSM) - With Memorial Day weekend getting closer, area parks are getting ready to open for the summer months. This means park commissioners are discussing what needs to be done.

The Parks and Recreation Commission in Fort Smith sent out updates on what they're working on in several of the parks. This includes, work being done on the Creekmore tennis courts. Then down the street crews are working on the softball fields at MLK Park. By the way, the naming process for those fields has begun with the deadline being next week on Monday (May16). Phase Two has started over at Imani Park near Fianna Hills which consists of a picnic shelter, a walking trail, and half-court basketball court. Construction is set to be done by Memorial Day weekend.

Also, the pool steps at the Creekmore Swimming Pool are being sealed and coated. However, one of the most run down features at Creekmore Park is the mini golf course. Right now, the area is needing cleaning up and landscaping work. City leaders said they're looking for someone to take it over and bring it more up to date. The goal is to make it affordable at the cost of $2.50 to play mini golf.

City leaders said they want to make the mini golf course a safe, high quality, and a fun place for families to visit.

The Parks and Recreation meeting will be at noon on Wednesday (May 11) at the Creekmore Community Center.
