Shiloh Christian Seniors Ready For First State Title

After winning three straight titles, the Saints have failed to return to the championships in four years

SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - The Shiloh Christian Saints don't know what it's like to play in a state championship game. The last time this team was there was back in 2012.

"My brother played for Shiloh for four years, and that's when they won three straight championships in a row and lost the one the year before they went on the win streak," senior short stop Joshua Lautzsch said. "So, seeing him grow up and play in the state championships has always been a dream of mine, and I want to do what he's done."

But they've been close, making it to the semi's a year ago.

"That final game hurt," senior pitcher Gunner Gilbert said. "We were up in the game, and they ended up coming back and beating us. Now we're all hungry to get that team which is Arkadelphia, and just come back and be better this year."

Shiloh will have a first round bye in the state tournament as the No. 1 seed, giving them a chance to save some of their arms if they are to reach the state title game.

"We have two games," Saints coach Moe Henry said. "We're automatically in the quarterfinals. So, if we can win the quarterfinal game, and then the semifinal game, we'll be able to rest up and come back that final Friday for the state finals."

They're ready though for their first game on Friday with either Lonoke or Hamburg in Ashdown.

"Ask any one of these players, they'd all say the same thing that that's what we've been working for. We're just ready to go take it," Lautzsch said.
