FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — The capital murder trial for a man accused of shooting and killing his father in 2014 began Monday morning (May 16) in Washington County Circuit Court in Fayetteville.

Samuel Robert Hill, who was 26 at the time of the alleged crimes, is facing charges of capital murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault on family or household member, endangering the welfare of a minor, false imprisonment, domestic battering, carrying certain prohibited weapons and interference with emergency communications, according to court records.

Sam Hill is accused of shooting and killing Allen Hill, 61, in August 2014, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Hill shot and killed his father following an argument and gunfight at his parents’ home on South Whitehouse Road, authorities said.

After he was wounded in his hip in return fire from his father, Sam Hill returned to his home in Fayetteville where he was arrested without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

His mother Roberta Hill, 55, escaped out of a window during the shooting and later accidentally shot Cpl. Taylor Reed of the Sheriff’s Office, thinking he was her son coming back to hurt her, authorities said.

Sam Hill’s jury trial is expected to last about five days. He is facing life in prison without parole if he is found guilty of capital murder. The death penalty in the case has been waved.

Cpl. Reed recovered after the shooting and returned to work in January 2015. Roberta Hill was not charged in the incident.
