Lady Tigers Looking For Fourth Title In Five Years

Bentonville back in championship game after streak of three titles in a row snapped in 2015

BENTONVILLE (KFSM) - It is almost guaranteed that Bentonville will be playing for the 7A girls state championship each year and this year is no exception. But this group of Lady Tigers is out to prove last year was.

The Lady Tigers were knocked off by Bryant in the semifinals a year ago but were able to avenge that loss in the semis this season, and now they're eyeing a fourth championship in five years as they'll face Cabot on Friday at 10 a.m. at Razorback Field.

For the first time in five years, Bentonville did not have the Arkansas Gatorade player of the year on the roster but that might be a reason for their success.

"Usually we have a couple really, really good players but all together we really good players together and function well as a team and that's where we really focused on this year," Bentonville senior Gabby Miller said. "Just being a team and playing as a team."

Bentonville (19-2-1) is led by sophomore Alissa Carlson with 22 goals while senior Melanie Matkins has 11.

"They had to really do this in a different way and I think it just shows them that they're capable of whatever they want to achieve," Bentonville coach Kris Henry said.
