A few spotty showers have been roaming around Wednesday afternoon but the majority of the area has been dry with overcast skies and cooler than normal temperatures.

The next system is set to affect the area on Thursday with rain moving in from the southwest.

  • No severe weather
  • Rain totals 1/2 inch or less
  • Heaviest rain falls during the second half of the day

Here’s a look at the timing:

7PM THURSDAY: Scattered areas of rain will be affecting most of us. The rain will not be heavy.

The severe weather threat misses out area to the south across Texas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.

Rain totals will be heaviest to the south with far lesser amounts to the north. In Northwest Arkansas expect .10-.25″ of rain, while Fort Smith and south could see upwards of .50″ towards the Ouachitas.

After the weekend, the next chance for widespread rain will be on Monday night into Tuesday of next week. It’s too soon to tell for Memorial Day but that forecast should start to fall into line after the weekend into next week.

This is the time of year we start to transition out of tornado season and into the overnight storm complex season known as “Mesoscale Convective Complexes” which give us the majority of rainfall in June. While these storms often pose a wind damage risk, the jet stream will retreat and allow for warmer and more seasonable temperatures to arrive towards the middle and end of June… It was cool today, but Summer is near.
