The anticipation of having a fish at the end of your rod is second to none for anglers. On this week's Adventure Arkansas, the crew from Adventure Subaru takes us fly fishing along the White River.

For more than 12 years, Dan McKenna has been casting his fly fishing rod. McKenna of Fayetteville's Adventure Subaru explains, "You can't really catch a fish if you're trying to. You have to be in tune and at one with everything around you. It's not a sport you can force."

By day he's a sales manager at Adventure Subaru, but on his off days, the outdoors call his name as well as his family's, to fish. "I've got an 8 year old named August, and about 2 weekends ago he caught about 13 fish on a fly rod so he was teaching us lessons. Everybody in my family is gonna learn this in my house for sure."

Dan's right hand fisherman is Jeff Jackson, an art teacher at Fayetteville High School.  Jackson shares, "I think just the anticipation of this, I just get excited every time I think about getting ready to go on a trip. Then just to be out and commute with the water and the land is great."

Connor McKenna has been fly fishing for 3 years, and describes what it's like to catch. "Oh it's such a thrill. It's so fun to reel it in and half the time you get it and the other times you get it all the way to the net and it comes off of it."

All three men agree on the key to a successful catch. McKenna says, "Keep trying, you know, not every day you're gonna come out here and catch a bunch of fish. Patience is a virtue for sure."

Jackson agrees, "Patience, be patient with it. It takes a little while to learn how to work the rod, to work the water, how to read water."

Connor reiterates, "You gotta have a lot of patience. It can be very frustrating at times, but just stick with it."

Even though there were a number of close calls, the fish just weren't biting for us this time. "There are so many variables that you just gotta go with the flow, is the best thing to say. No pun intended." says McKenna.

The team at Adventure Subaru has guided us through several Adventures, from biking to kayaking and even wake-boarding. Find links on those adventures and more on the Interactive Adventure Arkansas map.
