Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart issued a warning through the department's Facebook page, after he said he received calls that flower arrangements were stolen for grave site.

"I've received several complaints where flowers are being stolen from grave sites during decorations," he said. "It saddens me that people will steal flowers from a grave site. Deputies will be patrolling area cemeteries over the next few weeks during decorations."

Patsy Jordon was at Akins Cemetery on Friday (May 20) decorating her husband and sons graves.

"It's where I go. I have so many memories of both of them," she said. "It will be gorgeous out here Sunday a lot of people will show up out here, a lot of people."

Jordon said one of her family members head stones has been vandalized in years past. The most recent incident was with her husbands grave.

"I've had my husbands wreath stole right off my husbands grave site before. I just don't know how they live with their selves. This is not the place to be doing that because this is sentimental to us," Jordon said.

This weekend and next week many families will decorate their loved ones grave in preparation for Memorial Day.

"It is considered larceny if you are caught. Please give respect to grave sites. If anyone has information about any theft please call your local law enforcement agency," Lockhart said.
