FORT SMITH (KFSM) - A local business is looking to make a splash as the weather gets warm and the kids get bored. Over the past couple of months, crews have been getting the Parrot Island Waterpark ready for another great year.

The waterpark is located at Ben Geren Park just off Zero Street. Parrot Island made it's grand opening last year, and after a jam packed year full of fun and lots of customers they exceeded their expectations. Workers are in high hopes of having an even better year this time around.

This year the waterpark has a few new attractions. A party pavilion is a new feature. This provides a large, spacious area for parties and events to have a place to themselves while still hanging out near the water.

Another change this year are the season passes. When you purchase a pass, you will also receive discounts on food at the concession stand and discounts on cabana rentals. Both of these discounts last all season long. Season passes are available to be purchased either online or at their office.

"We want to give Arkansas residents a break from reality," said Marketing intern Haley Fossitt. She adds, "We're really trying to grow as fast as we can and accommodate the hopes and dreams of the kids of Fort Smith."

With the opening for the summer season this coming weekend, crews have worked to make sure everything is back in order and the cool water is ready to be played in.

However, with rain in the forecast for a majority of the holiday weekend workers have their fingers crossed that the sun will come out. "I don't think that its going to be much of an issue because Fort Smith is a close community," said Fossitt.

According to Fossitt, "We have had a ton of season passes sale so I know everyone is getting geared up."

Parrot Island Waterpark will open on Friday (May27) at 10:00 a.m.

Creekmore pool in Fort Smith and the Alma Waterpark will also open this weekend.
