POTEAU (KFSM) - When school is out for the summer, some children don't know when their next meal will come from. A local school district is making sure kids have enough food to get through the summer months.

For the past 15 years, the Poteau School District has helped hundreds of kids during the months of June and July by providing them with nutritious meals.

A lot of students rely on their breakfast or lunch to be provided by the school. For some these kids, these are the only meals they'll receive for the day. However, when summer comes around that's when some local kids question when their next meal will be.

Faculty will be dishing both hot and cold meals during the week at the Poteau Primary School and at the Pansy Middle School. Each day, students will have a choice of what they want to eat. The best part about it is it's for free. Not only does it help current students, but it could also help kids that will be coming into the school district in the fall to make new friends. "It gives them time to get then introduced into coming to school and how to eat or go through the line," said Glynda McDaniel, Food Service Director.

Breakfast is served from 7:45 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. then lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

All kids under the age of 18 are welcome to eat at either location Monday through Friday.

The Summer Food Service Program at the Poteau School District will last until July 15.
