NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- According to a study by AAA, the 100 days following Memorial Day are the most deadly days to be a driver,

The study showed more than 1,000 people die in car crashes during that period each year, 16 percent more than other similar spans of the year.

“it is very important for parents to be mindful of this during that period of time, and to really be involved with a teen’s life during that time,” said Jennifer Ryan, spokeswoman for AAA.

In Texas, Toron Wooldridge lost his teenage sisters to distracted driving earlier this year.

“My father called me, and we were in disbelief. We were in shock,” Wooldridge said.

Wooldridge’s sisters were killed after the driver looked down at a GPS, and accidentally veered into a semi.

“[Cell phones] also can only take a moment, and your life can be changed,” Woolridge said at their funeral.

Some told 5NEWS they were shocked to hear the summer months were more active.

“Summer months, when I go to work, [driving] is easy,” said Brian Jones, a Springdale resident.

However, Jones said he understood why driving is more dangerous in today’s age, when mobile devices are everywhere.

“When I was a kid, I was really reckless. I am not as bad now, because I have kids growing up,” Jones said.
