OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma’s softball team beat Auburn 2-1 in Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series Finals.
OU took the series 2-1 winning their third national championship on Wednesday night at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Starting pitcher Paige Parker, who was named the WCWS Most Outstanding Player, gave up five hits and struck out five to win her 27th straight start.
As a team OU won 32 of their last 33 games, the only loss coming in Game 2 of the WCWS Finals against Auburn.
Oklahoma got two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Caleigh Clifton scored on a play in which Auburn committed two errors on a ground ball by Shay Knighten, giving the Sooners a 1-0 lead. Fale Aviu then singled home Knighten to make it 2-0 Sooners.
Auburn’s lone run came in the top of the fourth inning when Jade Rhodes hit a solo home run down the left field line.
Oklahoma finishes the year 57-8, and joins UCLA and Arizona as the only teams to win more than two NCAA national championships in softball. The Sooners’ other titles came in 2000 and 2013.
