OKLAHOMA (KFSM) — Voters in Oklahoma will be heading to the polls Tuesday (June 28) to cast their ballot as the statewide primary kicks off.

In our area, this includes Sequoyah and LeFlore Counties. One of the big elections happening for both is the race for county sheriff.

In LeFlore County, Sheriff Rob Seale is trying to keep his position and is running against challenger Jim Craig.

In Sequoyah County, there are four candidates running for sheriff. This includes incumbent Ron Lockhart, and challengers Larry Lane, Roy Coleman and Greg Peters.

Other races in Sequoyah County include U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative for District 2 and County Commissioner for District 2.

In LeFlore County, voters will cast their ballots for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative for District 2, State Senator for District 5, State Representative for District 3, County Treasurer and County Clerk.

With early voting now behind us, LeFlore County election officials said they had a total of 400 voters. However, both counties are hoping for an even bigger turnout Tuesday.

“It’s very important to have a voice,” said Sequoyah County Election Board member Abby Glover. “It is a freedom and a right that you have to vote. Your vote will count and it’s important to be involved in your community and have a say,” Glover added.

Polls will close at 7 p.m. By law, Oklahoma voters must provide proof of identity.
