LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) — Two brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after they were convicted of murdering and sodomizing a Fort Smith woman.

Johnathen Thacker was sentenced to life in prison Friday (July 1) after he pleaded guilty and the prosecution waived the death penalty in exchange for testimony against his brother, Elvis.

Elvis Thacker was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday (June 29). A jury found him guilty of first-degree murder on April 29.

The Thackers killed and sexually assaulted Briana Ault in September 2010.

“The LeFlore County district attorney’s office is glad this case has reached a just resolution for the Ault family,” District Attorney Jeff Smith said Friday. “We believe justice was done for Brianna and that was the most important thing in this case.”

The Thackers were already serving prison time after pleading guilty to an unrelated rape and kidnapping. They also served time for attempted capital murder after shooting at a Fort Smith police officer.
