SILOAM SPRINGS (KFSM) — The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission was called to Siloam Springs Friday (July 1) after a black bear was seen downtown.

The bear was first spotted in the 900 block of West Alpine Street then it ran down to the 700 block of West Twin Springs Street to West Jefferson Street where it was tranquilized by AGFC rangers.

The bear was removed from the area by 11:15 a.m. and was taken to Lake Wedington woods, according to Siloam Springs Spokeswoman Holland Hayden.

According to experts, black bears generally eat insects and berries and are not a threat to humans. They are also easily frightened by human activity, so banging pots or pans or playing loud music scares them away.
