FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Adam Brandt has been creating artwork for most of his life, but a recent national tragedy has inspired him to give back in a unique way.

"Right after the Orlando shooting, I felt like I needed to print something about it, so I dug through and found, 'Be Excellent To One Another,'" Brandt said.

By hand, Brandt carefully prints the letters of the phrase on rainbow cards with a 20th Century letter press.

"This is not like typing on a keyboard where you can just knock it out, "Brandt said. "You are setting every single letter, every single punctuation, every single spacy by hand."

Brandt usually keeps his ideas in a notebook or creates prints when he has had a bad day and needs to blow off some steam. But, the urge for him to give back after this tragedy is what lead him to the idea.

"When things like the Orlando shooting happen, you don't have to be there necessarily to be affected by it," Brandt said. "When violence happens in any way it's terrible. But, when it's specifically targeting a group of people because of who they love, if we don't do something about it, then despair will conquer. It will win if we don't do anything about it."

Brandt hopes people learn from the events that happened in Orlando and he said even the smallest actions can go a long way.

"You don't have to do anything big," Brandt said. "I'm printing cards and selling them to people that I know, and its $2, but $2 a piece adds up very quickly."

He wants those affected to know that they're not alone.

"Let them know that somebody out there is thinking of them," Brandt said. "Just to be able to know that something silly and small that I did affected them in a positive way, would just be the world."

Brandt plans to sell the cards until the end of July. So far, he has sold more than 75 cards.

He offers the cards individually or in a rainbow set.
