FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – Deatrich Wise Jr. is expected to be the leader among the Arkansas defensive line in his senior season and prove of that came on Tuesday.
The defensive end was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced. The award is given to the nation’s top defensive player.
Wise recorded eight sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss for Arkansas last season as a junior. He has 13 sacks in his career and has registered as least .5 sacks in each of the past nine SEC games he has played.
In all, 90 players were named to the watch list including three from LSU, Florida, TCU, Oklahoma, Clemson and Texas A&M. Arkansas State’s Ja’Von Rolland-Jones was also listed. The award winner will be announced on Dec. 8.
