NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) — The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will begin expanding 8.5 miles of Interstate 49 in Northwest Arkansas to six lanes this summer.
The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved bids for two expansion projects.
The purpose of the first project is to widen 5.1 miles of the interstate between Arkansas Hwy. 264 and New Hope Road in Rogers from four lanes to six lanes. The $38,702,138 contract was awarded to APAC-Central, Inc. of Fayetteville.
Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks and completion is expected in late 2018.
The purpose of the second project is to widen 3.4 miles of the interstate to six lanes and construct interchanges for Arkansas Hwy. 72 and Arkansas Hwy. 102/U.S. Hwy. 62 in Bentonville. The $27,738,355 contract was awarded to Crossland Construction Company, Inc. of Columbus, Kansas.
Construction is also scheduled to begin in two to four weeks and completion is expected in late 2018.
