FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Thursday (July 7) is the final day to donate to the Fort Smith Salvation Army fan drive, which helps people keep cool across the River Valley.

The Salvation Army is accepting 20-inch box fans, which cost about $15 at hardware stores like Lowe’s.

The fans can be dropped off at the Salvation Army on N. 6th Street until 7 p.m. Thursday.

The fan drive started on June 20, and the fans will be distributed to people in need throughout the area.

“People with breathing issues, with children or with seniors — that fan could make a huge difference,” said Becky Gentry, social services director at the Salvation Army. “It can also help with keeping their utility bills down, so people can afford to keep their lights on with this fan.”

So far, 175 fans were donated to the drive. Organizers said they have received between 400-450 in past years.
