FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — The Arkansas Razorbacks announced on Thursday (July 7) that the University of Michigan has dropped a scheduled two-game football series.

Michigan will pay a $2 million cancellation fee for the games, according to the Arkansas Razorbacks webpage. The games would have been played at Michigan in 2018 and at Arkansas in 2019.

U of A athletic director Jeff Long was informed of the decision in an email Wednesday night (July 6).

“Primarily, we are disappointed in Michigan’s timing in pulling out of a non-conference football series between the SEC and the Big Ten that has been set for four years,” Long said in the article. “While there are many other quality opponents that would help us strengthen our non-conference schedule, the late notice of Michigan’s cancellation makes securing those games substantially more difficult.”

The agreement to play the two-game series was signed in 2012.
