FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Ales for Trails offered more than 200 types of craft beer Saturday (July 9), as well as some competition with a game of cornhole.

Festival-goers were given a four ounce mug to sample the different beer while listening to live music.

Meghann LaBorn came to the event for the beer of course, but she also go in on a game of cornhole.

"Well, [my team] has had some practices just to prepare, but we're hoping we're game-time players, because our practice beforehand didn't go so well," LaBorn said.

The proceeds from the festival will go to the continuation of trails in Fort Smith.

"It's important for trails to be in any city because it really energizes the community," Ales for Trails Co-Director Griffin Hanna said. "It gets people outdoors and gets them to get off the couch and it really stimulates the downtown area economically."

Attendees and even volunteers said they'll definitely be back to the event next year.

"If folks would like to come try something they've never tried, this is the place to do it," volunteer Brent Kesner said.

Kesner said this is a great event for people who live in the area.

"It's a great time, and at least locally, there's not another place you can try this many beers and get that much food in such a great atmosphere," Kesner said.

Organizers hope to continue Ales for Trails each year.
