Pet chickens have been linked to the largest case of salmonella.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said more than 600 cases have been linked to the outbreak.

All live poultry can carry the bacteria, so the CDC warned that it is important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after you touch the birds or their surroundings.

Symptoms of salmonella include abdominal cramps, vomiting, headaches and fever.
