CEDARVILLE (KFSM)--Turnover has been the theme in Cedarville. The Pirates have had five head coaches in the last seven seasons. The latest is Max Washausen, who was defensive coordinator and interim coach last fall. Washausen wants to build a culture of stability.

"I've been wanting to be a head coach for a long time, and that's what I want to do is build someone that they can trust and someone that's going to be here as a head coach."

2015 marked the third straight year that Cedarville won just two games but Washausen does return six starters each on offense and defense, none more important than senior Caleb Stockton.

"Caleb's one of the type of players you want in a program. He's really turned it around since I've been here. He's here every day, working really hard and becoming a leader," the first year coach explained. Stockton is joined in the backfield by fellow seniors Andrew Hernandez and Bryson Love.

Leading in to his senior year, Stockton said, "I went to a lot of different camps and just did everything that I could to be better for this year." Washausen shifted the Pirates from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 system. With the change, Hernandez slides from outside linebacker to safety.

Washausen notes there are plenty of areas to improve on, his approach is simple. "Just take one game at a time. The first game is Mountainburg and I want to work hard towards that game, and hopefully come out with a win."

Cedarville will open the season on Sept. 2 at Mountainburg. It is a rematch of last year's opening week, where the Pirates fell 34-19 to the Dragons.
