SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — Tyson Foods and the Tyson family announced on Tuesday (Aug. 2) they will be making a $15 million donation to help construct the Arkansas Children’s Northwest hospital in Springdale.
The donation will also go toward the construction the Tyson Family Tower in the new facility. The tower will house more than 233,000 square feet of bed space for patients, as well as areas for emergency care, diagnostic services and clinical space.
The future children’s hospital is currently under construction. The 37-acre campus is located on Interstate-49 across from Arvest Ballpark and is scheduled to open in January 2018.
This donation brings the total fundraising efforts for the hospital up to $45.5 million. The estimated construction cost of the project is $427.7 million over the next five years.
“This gift will transform healthcare for children in the region and create a wellness destination for families for generations to come,” said Marcy Doderer, President and CEO of Arkansas Children’s. “To have the Tyson name attached to this project demonstrates what an impact this facility will have on the area. It’s a testament to the outstanding legacy of this remarkable family and company.”
Tuesday’s donation is the largest single contribution to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation.
