CLARKSVILLE (KFSM) — An initiative to legalize alcohol sales in Johnson County received the required signatures to be placed on the November ballot.

“Keep Our Dollars In Johnson County” was certified as an option on the general election ballot after the county clerk’s office accepted 5,441 signatures. The measure received more than 10,300 signatures for review, according to a release.

State law requires 38 percent of the county’s registered voters to sign for a local option to be placed on the ballot.

Our folks worked hard to gather the signatures needed to get this on the ballot.  We think the overwhelming response shows local residents recognize the impact alcohol sales would have on our economy, and they want to keep our dollars here in our community,” said Susan Edens, spokeswoman for Keep Our Dollars in Johnson County.  “The people of Johnson County have long-deserved the chance to weigh in on this issue, and we are glad that they are finally going to have that opportunity.”
