SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) — The family of Billy Monroe Jones, who is accused of shooting and killing Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Bill Cooper, released a statement Thursday (Aug. 11).
Raven Nichole Jones, who is the suspect’s sister, sent the following statement to 5NEWS on behalf of the Jones family:
It is with our deepest regrets that we mourn the tragic loss of one of our county’s finest officer. Our thoughts and our prayers go out to the entire Cooper family during this time of loss along with our deepest sympathies. We extend our gratitude for all those involved in yesterday’s tragic, yet unexplainable events. We mourn our losses as a community and as a family in hopes for restoration and healing.
In a private Facebook conversation with 5NEWS, the Jones family writes that Billy Jones was undergoing chemotherapy and had not planned to engage in a gunfight with responding officers. The family also writes Jones was going to jail for 54 days on a gun charge. The family stated they have not been able to talk to him about what happened Wednesday and ended the conversation by saying their hearts are broken.
