FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Funeral arrangements for a Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office corporal who was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday were changed on Friday (Aug. 12) to accommodate more people.

The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office stated that a viewing will be held at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood on Monday (August 15) from 2-8 p.m. The church is located at 19 N. Adair Street.

Cpl. Bill Cooper’s funeral will take place Tuesday (August 16), at 10 a.m. at the in the Fort Smith Convention Center, at 800 Rogers Ave.

The burial service will immediately follow the funeral, and will be at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, at 1401 S. Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s or the American Cancer Association.

The Sheriff’s Office released the following statement about donations:

“The official donation fund for the family of Corporal Bill Cooper has been set up at Farmer’s Bank of Greenwood.  Donations can be made at any area Farmer’s Bank branch location.  Please ask for your donations to be deposited into the Deputy Bill Cooper Memorial Fund.  All of the money collected will go to the Cooper family.

“GoFundMe sites may be set up on behalf of Deputy Cooper’s family.  However, there are fees associated with these sites and we cannot ensure that the family will receive all of the monies received.

“Also a fund has been set up at Farmer’s Bank for Greenwood Police Department K-9 Kina.”
