Panama School District Cancels Friday Classes For Poteau Family Funeral

PANAMA (KFSM) — Panama School District students started school Thursday (Aug. 11), but they will not have classes Friday as three of their classmates are buried following a deadly train collision.

Jace Hardy, 17, Remington Goines, 12, Ruger Goines, 7, and their mother, April Goines, were killed Aug. 7 when a train collided with the vehicle they were in at the Dewey Avenue train crossing in Poteau, according to police.

All four died at the scene. A fourth child, Jacklynn Goines, 7, survived the crash and was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

A funeral for the three boys and their mother will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau.
