RIO DE JANEIRO (KFSM)- The United States was close to claiming gold and silver in the men’s long jump final, but a ruling involving former Razorback Jarrion Lawson’s hand put him just outside of the medal stand.

Recent Arkansas graduate Jarrion Lawson finished fourth in the men’s long jump final Saturday. On his final attempt his fingers dragged into the sand at 7.78 meters, a mistake that put him outside of medal contention.

Jeff Henderson came through on his final jump to win the gold medal in the men’s long jump final. The Arkansas native leaped 8.38 meters to beat South Africa by one centimeter for the first place spot

For team USA it is the first golf in that event since 2004.
