CHARLESTON (KFSM)- It is a rarity is high school football to have a big group of returning starters,  Charleston is one of those rare cases. The Tigers  have 16 total returning starters on both sides of the ball coming into the 2016 season.

Last year Charleston had a down year, finishing 7-5 overall which was their worst record in 28 years. Head Coach Greg Kendrick (36-5) is not planning on having a repeat of last season.

"We have a lot of kids coming back that understand that 7-5 is unacceptable," said Kendrick.  "That's worst year we had in 28 years, the kids have realized that so they don't want to be the group that repeats that."

One of the Tigers first goals of the season is to get off to a better start. At their 2015 season opener Charleston fell to Shiloh Christian 77-49, and the Tigers are planning on having a better start against Dardanelle on August 30th.

On of the key returning players is senior quarterback Jackson Rowland. Rowland completed 160 of 249 passes last year for 2,096 yards and 17 touchdowns. Rowland and the rest of the senior class are hungry for redemption after last season.
"Last year was really my first year to start and I thought last year meant a lot to me," said Rowland.  "But, coming into the senior year it's the real deal it really means a lot to me .We kind of want revenge kind of want an undefeated season sounds pretty good to us."

Charleston's season opener will be August 30th against Dardanelle at 7:00 p.m.
