FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The U.S. Marshals Museum expanded its collection thanks to a loan of more than 100 items from the U.S. Marshals service.

With the loan of 121 new objects from the U.S. Marshals Service, the museum now has nearly 500 items in its collection, according to a press release.

“This artifact shipment will provide more flexibility for the development of exhibit designs,” said Neil DeSousa, Assistant Director, Tactical Operations, U.S. Marshals Service. “Highlights include artifacts from various operations of the 1970s and 1980s and the badge that board member, astronaut and Honorary U.S. Marshal Jim Reilly brought into outer space.”

Additionally they received materials from the standoff at Ruby Ridge, Wounded Knee, handcuffs used to transport former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, and the script from the film “U.S. Marshals.”

“Items like these make up the rich history of the Marshals Service and will be key components to telling the story to the guests of the museum,” said Patrick Weeks, U.S. Marshals Museum CEO. “We look forward to sharing these, as well as our many other artifacts, with the public when the museum opens.”
