LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) — A man suspected of grabbing his firearm to shoot an officer during a sex offender call was booked into jail on Tuesday (August 17).
Johnnie Reed, 70, was hospitalized after being shot by a Spiro Police officer.
Reed, a wanted sex offender from Missouri, was warned by the officer not to reach for a firearm, after the officer was dispatched to a Spiro residence.
After Reed answered the door he charged back into the residence and grabbed a firearm. Reed attempted to shoot the officer which led to a struggle over the firearm. The officer was able to reach for his weapon and fire a shot, immobilizing Reed. He was later taken to a Tulsa hospital.
Reed was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony.
His bond has been set at $100,000, according to court records.
