FORT SMITH (KFSM) - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith students started classes on Monday (Aug.22). Some additions are on campus this year for the lions including a state-of-art wellness center.

The new facility has two basketball and volleyball courts, a rock climbing wall, an indoor track, numerous fitness machines and classrooms where they will offer exercise classes. Whether it's running, climbing, or hitting the court, it offers students an opportunity to become more healthy.

Due to the small size of the previous UA-Fort Smith gym, the facility was voted on by the students at the university after it was approved by school officials. To help fund the project, a $5 per credit hour fee will be added to each class taken by a student.

Doors open at 6:00 a.m. every morning Monday-Friday. The wellness center is open seven days a week during the school year. Students and staff will have access to the new center by using their student I.D.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Monday (Aug. 22) to celebrate the grand opening and accomplishment for the school.
