Man Upset After Niece Brings Home Waiver To ‘Be Excused From Reciting’ Pledge Of Allegiance At School

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Florida man is upset after his niece brought home a Pledge of Allegiance waiver that asked parents to sign and return the form if they’d like their child to “be excused from reciting” it.

It read:

“I understand my rights as a parent and I request that my child, noted above, be excused from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This request includes standing and placing his/her right hand over his/her heart.”

In frustration, Micah Brienen took to Facebook last Thursday.

“My niece brought this home from school today…What is happening to our country?!?” he said in the post.

Brienen’s sister-in-law returned the form with her daughter, writing the following in response:

“This is the dumbest thing I have ever read and I am so ashamed of this.”

The post has been shared more than 13,400 times.

Several days later, Brienen followed up his initial post with one asking his friends to contact the school’s superintendent about the issue and letting them know that he is up for reelection.

Snopes points out that this is not the first time outrage has appeared online about the form, noting that students in Florida have had the right to opt out of the pledge since 2000.

What this article is not telling you is that the Florida dominated GOP legislature and the GOP Governor signed in legislation that stated that teachers need to provide this to students. On a personal note, as a Christian, I cannot morally say the Pledge. Why? This country has laws protecting the legality of abortion. Since Roe v. Wade was enacted, over 57 million have lost their lives. Nazi Germany never slaughtered people to this great of a degree and no one would ever think to pledge allegiance to the the Nazi flag or to the Reich.

Instead of having parents voluntarily sign
their kids up for noogies, wedgies,
toilet bowl water boarding, extra laps in
gym, being cudgeled in a football gauntlet
and automatic grade deductions; why not
just dismiss with the Pledge of Yankee
Allegiance, altogether? That is, unless your
real intent is to identify, brand and punish
any and all Rebels who do not cleave to the
gospel of Yankee Supremacy in these Yankee
    indoctrination centers, seminaries of
Yankee Supremacy, they jokingly refer to
    as, schools.

The fact that Yankees find it necessary to
elicit an involuntary pledge of allegiance,
in and of itself says far more about the
    doubtful allegiance many Indians, Southerners,
    Hawaiians, Puerto Ricans, Latins, Samoans
and many many others have to their Yankee
    Union, than I need to.
