FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – The backup quarterback position just became a much easier decision for Arkansas coaches as third year sophomore Rafe Peavey said he intends to transfer to SMU.

Peavey, a four star prospect from Missouri, appeared to be the backup coming out of spring football but an offseason back surgery saw him tumble behind redshirt freshman Ty Storey and true freshman Cole Kelley on the Razorbacks’ depth chart. Peavey did not take a snap in the final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday.

Peavey posted the following statement on his twitter account (@IThrowFootballs) Tuesday night:

“After much consideration, it is with a heavy heart that I’m informing y’all that I have decided to further my career at SMU. It was a tough decision to leave the school that I committed to as a sophomore in high school, but I look forward to what God has in store for me in this new chapter of my life & ultimately I have faith in His plan over mine. To all my teammates, I love you dearly and will cherish all the memories we had together. I’m thankful for all the people I’ve met, relationships I’ve made and spiritual growth that I’ve had over these past two years. To all the fans that continue to believe in me and have remained in my corner throughout thick in thin, I think you.”

Peavey did not participate in a game at Arkansas but will have to sit out the 2016 season at SMU due to NCAA transfer rules. Peavey will have two years of eligibility remaining.
