PARIS (KFSM)- Paris reached the second round of the state playoffs last season, but felt like they could have gone farther. This season the Eagles are eyeing the state title.

Marc Tucker took over as head coach last year and under his leadership the Eagles finished 7-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. From last season's squad the Eagles have 16 returning starters on both sides of the ball bringing back a lot of experience to the field.

"We got 13 seniors on the roster right now and a lot of juniors to play," said Tucker. "So we are trying to build on that. One of the things we said during the offseason is that we want to practice on Thanksgiving. We feel like if you get to the quarterfinals we are two games away from winning the state title and that's where we want to be."

The Eagles have eight total returning offensive  starters, highlighted by a strong offensive line and depth in the running back position. All-state senior tailback Nate Davidson led Paris with 1,452 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. Paris' offensive line is loaded when it comes to size and experience, protecting junior starting quarterback Preston Drewry who passed for 738 yards and 12 touchdowns this past fall.

"We felt like we could have gone so much farther last year," said senior Casey Rice. " I guess that this year that's what we kind of want to capitalize on is going all the way. Coach said one of our main goals this year is to practice on Thanksgiving."

Paris plays Yellville-Summit in their home opener on September 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
