Ty Storey Tabbed Hogs Backup QB
FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – Ty Storey continued to progress in the Arkansas football program after enrolling last spring and head coach Bret Bielema announced Wednesday at the NWA Touchdown Club that the Charleston native will be the team’s backup quarterback when the season begins on Sept. 3.
Storey was in a competition with sophomore Rafe Peavey and true freshman Cole Kelley heading into fall camp. Peavey, who was the backup during spring practice, made the announcement that he intends to transfer to SMU on Tuesday night. Kelley will be the team’s developmental quarterback, according to Bielema.
Storey went a perfect 5-of-5 with a touchdown in the Razorbacks’ first scrimmage of fall camp but then struggled in the second scrimmage though he was not helped as the Arkansas receivers dropped several balls.
The two-time Arkansas Gatorade player of the year threw for 12,856 yards (third most in state history at the time) and 154 touchdowns (second most at the time) as he led Charleston to 29 straight wins and back-to-back 3A state championships.
Arkansas kicks off the season next Saturday at 3 p.m. as Louisiana Tech comes to Fayetteville.
