CLARKSVILLE (KFSM)- The Panthers haven't had a winning season since 2009, but with new head coach Khris Buckner in place Clarksville is ready to get back on the right track. Buckner was hired over the summer and has pushed the players during the offseason in the weight room to be physically ready to get wins in the 5A-West. Mentally, he thinks the players are also prepared for the fall.

"Coming off 1-9 last year you would think that the moral would be down," said Buckner. "It's not they're ready. I mean this is the same group that I believe went 7-2 in junior high and had a co-conference title, so they know how to win."

The Panthers also have 11 total returning starters on both sides of the ball, bringing a lot experience back. Another change that Buckner implemented was to change the offense from spread to wishbone, which better suited the team.

"He completely changed the offense," said senior Reese Howrard.  "Because I don't honestly think we were a spread team, we ran this type of offense in ninth grade and we were actually conference champions so it's kind of like we went back to what we were used to."

Clarksville will open their season against Lamar on September the 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
