Veteran Head Coach Brings Positive Mindset To Rogers

Mounties Look To Turn Around From 1-9 Season
Rogers Football

Head Coach: Mike Loyd, 1st season at Rogers
2015 Record: 1-9
Returning Offensive Starters: 8
Returning Defensive Starters: 6
Offense: Spread
Defense: 4-2
Key Players: SR Grayson Lee WR, SR Max Horton QB

ROGERS (KFSM)--Even though the Mounties finished with a 1-9 record in 2015, players did not feel they reached their full potential. With a new head coach and fourteen starters back, this fall could be totally different for Rogers.

Mike Loyd takes over a Mountaineers squad that is eager to win. Loyd, originally from Joplin, Missouri, comes to Rogers in his 30th year of coaching football.

"One of the big changes is Coach Loyd brought in the new offense. Running the spread is a big change from running the triple option. But aside from scheme-wise, he's brought in this really positive attitude. A lot of coaches tend to point out the negative things and kind of be down on you, but Coach Loyd is very good about finding the positives," said senior wide receiver Grayson Lee.

Lee and fellow senior Max Horton have developed great chemistry over the years. Horton, the team's starting quarterback, threw for over 200 yards in a four-way scrimmage in Oklahoma. Lee hauled in nine of those passes for over 150 yards.

Loyd brings both experience and a positive attitude to the table. His message to the team has been clear since arriving in late March.

"Really number one thing we're gonna build our team on is 'team matters most'. You know I want you playing where you're gonna benefit your team. Everybody can't be the quarterback, everybody can't be the running back, everybody can't be the wide receiver," Loyd said.

Rogers hosts Siloam Springs on September 2nd at 7pm to open up its season.
