BENTONVILLE (KFSM)--After the school district split, Bentonville West aims to make an impression in its first season. Coach Bryan Pratt takes control as head coach, bringing 35 players from his 2015 Bentonville freshmen team.

While joining the rigorous 7A West without any varsity experience sounds like a daunting task, Pratt believes it's the best move especially in the long run.

"Well I talked to somebody the other day and they were like, it's almost unfair. You know you're playing 7A football, 7A West football, toughest district and conference in the state, you have no seniors it's not fair. I said yea but next year we have 22 returning starters, so you kind of got to look at it on both sides of the fence," Pratt said.

The Wolverines showed promise in their first ever scrimmage, beating Oklahoma 4A power Poteau 31-12. The connection between sophomore quarterback Will Jarrett and sophomore wide receiver Jadon Jackson was apparent with the pair combining for two first downs on the initial drive of the game.

One of the leaders of the team, junior Sebastian Coniglia recovered a fumble that ended Poteau's first drive. Coniglia is very excited to get the chance to play varsity football, and addressed the team's attitude.

"Getting everybody hyped up, cause once somebody makes a tackle we all gotta be out of our seats. Everybody's gotta be jumping and stuff," said Coniglia.

Bentonville West's first regular season game is at Pryor, Oklahoma on September 2nd.
