SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - After laying the foundation in 2015, second year coach Zak Clark hopes Springdale can take a big step forward this fall.

Clark took over the Bulldogs program after a decade of struggles as they managed just one winning season in the past 10 years. Last year the former Fayetteville offensive coordinator instilled a new culture into the Springdale team and it's starting to show.

"Last year, we had to create the culture," Springdale junior Isaiah Nichols said. "This year we're trying to take step two to that and just go as far as we can and just prove to people that we're not the same Springdale  and that this is a new era."

"Coach Clark wasn't here and the culture wasn't the same as it is now," senior safety Jayden Minchew said. "It's definitely changed so much and it's more than football really here. It's culture and that's a big part of this program."

Minchew will be called upon to lead the defense after he recorded 94 tackles and a pair of interceptions last season.

Springdale opens the season at Conway on Friday, the same place where their season ended in 2015 in the opening round of the playoffs.
