ROGERS (KFSM) -- Students at Janie Darr Elementary School in Rogers take what their physical education teacher call a bike train to school twice a week.

The bike train, led by conductor and PE teacher Becci Neal, takes off on Wednesdays and Fridays through nearby neighborhoods and picks students up along the way. Then the group makes its way to school on their bikes.

Second grader Eva Olson said the practice is making her faster on her bicycle and after seeing her ride to school, her little sister can't wait until she's in kindergarten so she can join the train.

"She wants to learn how to ride her bike without training wheels," Eva said.

Neal said she would ride her bike to school when she a child, so the bike train brings back a lot of memories for her.

"My parents didn't worry about me riding my bike to school, we just didn't think about those things back then," she said.

Things are very different now, so Neal said the bike train keeps parents from worrying and of course, the children love doing it.

"It gives the kids a sense of accomplishment, the freedom of being able to ride their bike," Neal said.

Neal does get help from other teachers and parent volunteers, who keep an eye on the children in the bike train.

The bike rides will continue every week until the weather gets cooler.
