SEQUOYAH COUNTY (KOTV) – The Cherokee Nation has plans to buy Sequoyah’s Cabin, one of Oklahoma’s Historic Landmarks.

The state is currently facing a budget crisis prompting the sale of the landmark, which costs $100,000 to maintain. The National Historical Society says it’s budget has gone down 40 percent in the past 8 years.

According to Cherokee Nation Chief of Staff Chuck Hoskin, the tribe will buy the landmark from the state in hopes of reopening it for future generations.
