NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- Labor Day is the unofficial last day of summer and many people spent their long holiday weekend out of town.

Most people in our area spent their weekend at area lakes.

Oscar Gutierrez and his family took their RV and pontoon to Beaver Lake and he said it was a great time.

“Being with family and being with my kids, having fun with them,” said Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said going to the lake on Labor Day has become a family tradition but he wished the weekend lasted longer.

“I wish we had more time but we’ve got to go to work and pay bills,” he said.

According to Trip Advisor, 36% of people who went on a weekend getaway this Labor Day were returning home Monday (September 5) but 14% of people have decided to extend their trip one more day and are returning on Tuesday(September 16).

Robert Parker and his family are returning from Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma. Parker said the weekend couldn’t have been better.

“It was wonderful. The weather was nice, the temperatures were great, the water was good, the grandkids were there, it was a lot of fun,” said Parker.

Parker said his family goes to Grand Lake for Labor Day weekend almost every year but he says the best part is...

“Probably getting back…it’s fun to go but it’s always nice to get back home,” said Parker.

Trip Advisor says travel was up by about 10% this Labor Day weekend compared with last year.
