Springdale Schools: Eight Confirmed Cases Of Mumps, 25 Suspected


SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — There are now 25 suspected cases of mumps in the Springdale School District and eight confirmed cases of the virus, according to a district spokesman.

Spokesman Rick Schaeffer said they have had three more students and another staff member showing symptoms of mumps following the Labor Day weekend. That brought the total to 30 students and three staff members in 18 locations with signs of the virus. The locations include:

  • Lakeside Junior High
  • Sonora Middle School
  • Turnbow Elementary
  • Archer Learning Center
  • Thurman G. Smith Elementary
  • Westwood Elementary
  • Tyson Middle School
  • Tyson Elementary
  • Jones Elementary
  • Lee Elementary
  • Southwest Junior High
  • Parson Hills Elementary
  • Walker Elementary
  • Har-Ber High School
  • Don Tyson School of Innovation
  • George Elementary
  • Early Childhood Center

The eight confirmed cases of mumps are in students, Schaeffer said. The district has also been disinfecting all of its buildings before students arrive and after they leave, according to Schaeffer.

The Arkansas Department of Health also updated its totals Tuesday to 14 confirmed cases and 59 suspected cases in Northwest Arkansas.
