BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) -- Thousands of residents said goodbye to former sheriff Andrew (Andy) Lee III on Friday (Sept. 9).
The former leader of the Benton County Sheriff's office died on Monday (Sept. 5), while on vacation from Florida.
Following the funeral at Cross Church Pinnacle Hills in Rogers, bag pipes and rifles saluted the seven-term sheriff, as dozens of people, family and friends gathered to say their farewells.
A procession of vehicles, including dozens of county sheriff cruisers, followed Lee's hearse to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, the place he is said to have helped build and where his son, Andy Lee IV, is now a captain.
"I have no words that describe the emotions that I feel right now, because of the support that I saw," said Lee IV. "The citizens, they stopped on the side of the road, were getting out and putting their hands over their heart. It's just very powerful."
Lee said he and his family will continue what his father started.
"You know we're just going to build what he started," he said. "That's exactly what he would expect. I try to follow and my brother and sister try to follow the same suit he already started. That's where we go."
