SILOAM SPRINGS (KFSM) -- Dog lovers in Siloam Springs got together on Saturday (Sept. 10) in an effort to raise money for a community dog park.

Tailwaggers is a non-profit organization that works with local dog shelters. They invited dogs and their owners to a 'pool pawty' at the Siloam Springs Aquatic Center. Dogs were able to enjoy time in the pool with their owners.

Jordan Akins brought his dog, Buttons, and said that they both enjoy coming to Tailwaggers' events.

"You can tell she loves it too," Akins said. "I think we should get a dog park here myself."

Tailwaggers Vice President Holly Beeman said Siloam Springs is already working toward the dog park and now it is their job to raise the money. She said that of the annual 5K they wanted to do an event that allowed more dog participation.

"They`re going to be a better behaved animal," Beeman said. "When they`re social and when they have lots of exercise, they`re just a happier dog."

While the event was about the dogs, Tailwaggers made sure the owners had just as much fun. They brought in local vendors that offered anything from custom oil paintings of your pet to massage therapists that helped the owners relax while their dogs played in the pool.

Akins said that he can't wait to take Buttons to the dog park every day. He said that Buttons was a hard dog to wear out even though she had been swimming all day.

"She`ll probably want to go home and play," Akins said. "She`ll sleep good tonight."
